Interview questions for a nanny-share arrangement
Congratulations on getting one step closer to starting a nanny-share arrangement to ultimately save money on childcare costs.
Finding a family with similar criteria is hard! Now that you have a short list, it’s time to start interviewing the family to see if they would be a good fit.
But what do you ask this family? Glad you asked! Here are some high level questions that you can pose to the family before starting a nanny-share arrangement.
When would you need the arrangement to start?
What would the schedule look like?
Where would you prefer the nanny to work? My house or your house?
If your house, is it set up to accommodate a second child?
If your house, would other members be home at the same time that the nanny is there?
If your house, should I send my kiddo with lunch and snacks or should we share the costs of the food?
If your house, what other costs would you anticipate that we’d need to share?
How much money are you comfortable contributing to the nanny-share per hour?
How should we handle payroll taxes?
Does your kiddo need to be driven somewhere during the week by the nanny or would you do that?
What type of benefits should we provide the nanny in terms of paid time off, sick days, holidays, and more.
What should the nanny responsibilities entail (e.g., play time, prepping meals, laundry, cleaning, etc.)?
How and who should we provide feedback the nanny (if any)?
What should happen if one of us needs to end the nanny-share arrangement?
These questions should open up the conversation and ultimately lead to more in-depth discussions. Remember to take notes and translate into the nanny-share contract to reference down the road.
Best of luck!
