10 things no one told you about nanny-sharing (yet)!
We surveyed families to learn about the pro’s and con’s of nanny-shares!
A nanny-share is the lesser known childcare options in today’s marketplace. It is an arrangement where two families hire one nanny to care for their children together, saving each family money.
Read below for their most unique tips, tricks, and regrets!
Family #1:
Decide what happens if 1 child is sick and how the pay is split that week and where the nanny will work
Discuss boundaries around parents that work from home and how often they will “pop-in” which may be disruptive to the kids
Pick which family will share feedback (and how often) to the nanny
Family #2:
Hash out all logistics up front and stick to them - For example: What happens if a parent is late for “pick up”?
Discuss openly on how each family feels about illnesses - are runny noses ok? What about low grade fevers?
Discuss the importance of naps (if at all) and how the nanny should treat short naps or skipped naps, since this can impact bedtime routines and night sleep
Family #3:
Both families should align vacation weeks so that the nanny could be fully unplugged
Use a shared Google calendar to track various activities, appointments, etc.
If alternating between 2 homes, consider 2 weeks at 1 home and 2 weeks at the other, versus switching more frequently
Discuss how often the nanny will be paid (& promptly) and in what manner (cash, check, wire transfer) and taxes! Decide what happens if 1 family is late-to-pay for numerous weeks
